First CPWR History
1893 - The inaugural World's Congress of Religions. World’s Columbian Exposition Chicago, USA
1993 - Second Parliament of the World's Religions was held 100 years after its inception in Chicago. Its manifesto: "Towards a Global Ethic: An Initial Declaration"
1999 - Third Parliament of the World’s Religions Cape Town, South Africa. Theme: The Heart of the Global Ethic.
2004 - Fourth Parliament of the World’s Religions Barcelona, Spain. Pathways to Peace: The Wisdom of Listening, The Power of Commitment.
2009 - Fifth Parliament of the World’s Religions Melbourne, Australia. Theme: Healing Each Other, Healing The Earth.
2015 – Sixth Parliament of the World’s Religions Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Reclaiming the Heart of Our Humanity: Working Together for a World of Compassion, Peace, Justice and Sustainability.
2018 – Seventh Parliament of the World’s Religions Toronto, Canada Theme: The Promise of Inclusion, The Power of Love.
Second Chronology Master Hsin Tao's participation in the various meetings of the Parliament of the World's Religions.
- 1893, PWR hosted the first global dialogue of faiths at the city of Chicago. That marked the first official inter-religious meeting of Eastern and Western spiritual leaders.
- There was a hiatus in the hosting of PoWR, due to the First World War and Second World War between 1914 and 1945, and the Cold War which lasted till 1991.
- In 1993, PoWR was again held in Chicago to commemorate its 100th anniversary. The "Declaration Toward a Global Ethic" represented an epochal breakthrough in the history of PoWR.
1999, Third CPWR
Deepening faith, opening future paths.
Master Hsin Tao attended the Third parliament of World’s Religions as the founder of MWR. He gave two speeches, namely “Spiritual Challenges Facing the New Millennium” and “Buddhism in the 21st Century”.
A.Buddhism in the 21st Century
- Systematic imparting and implementation of Dharma education. Wise and measured use of the internet.
- Embracing precepts in leading a simple life.
- Focus on environmental protection, preventing overuse of the Earth’s resources.
- Convene interfaith dialogue and interaction.
B.Spiritual Challenges Facing the New Millennium
- Replace ignorance with right understanding.
- Replicate love, propagating the truth, virtues and beauty of religions.
- Manifestation of respect, inclusivity and universal love- MWR.
- The Seventh Parliament will endorse MWR as the gift to the people in the 21st Century.
- Master Hsin Tao will endorse a global convention with 400 committee members on ethics and moral values after the Seventh Parliament.
2004 4th CPWR
- Listening, Dialogue and Peace.
In 2004, Master Hsin Tao weaved the Buddhist – Muslim dialogue into the PoWR, giving keynote speeches such as “Extending the hand of friendship”.
“The Wisdom of Listening” and “Buddhism, Allah and Good Governance”.
A.Extending the hand of friendship
- Ignorance of the absolute truth is the main cause of conflicts.
- Every religion has the common objective of attaining universal love and peace.
- Changing the world starts with changing oneself.
B.The Wisdom of Listening.
- When the mind is at peace, only then will the world be at peace.
- Achieving inner freedom from suffering and tranquility, perceiving the interdependence in our world.
- Perceiving the nature of inter – connectedness among sentient beings, leading to the cultivation of real compassion for one another.
C.Buddhism, Allah and Good Governance.
- Enhance the tradition of religions while keeping them relevant to the needs of modern society.
- The sacred cause of the interdependent world can be traced to how religions perceive the universe and its ecology.
- The future of universal love and peace stems form mutual cooperation, listening, conversation and peace between Islam and Buddhism.
2009 5th, CPWR
- Trinity of Peace Within Our Mind, Ecology and the World.
In 2009, Master Hsin Tao shared peace meditation with PoWR participants and spoke on the “ Ecology of Religions in the East”, Creating Peace From Justice” and
“Sharing Wisdom Derived From Inner Peace”.
A.Ecology of Religions in the East
- Forgetting history is the main reason why history repeats itself. Greed is the starting point of the downward spiral towards doom.
- To put a stop to natural disaster, we must implement environmental policies, and also quell the inner greed within our mind.
- Engage in wholesome actions to achieve inner peace and harmony with the Earth that is conducive to the survival of the human race.
B.Creating Peace From Justice
- Justice is the manifestation of truth in thoughts, words and actions.
- Universal love is an important element in creating peace and pursuing justice.
C.Sharing Wisdom Derived From Inner Peace.
- Slow and late spiritual growth cause man to be tempted by material wealth.
- Inner peace is the key to truly see life as it is and to relies its true essence.
- Despite our diversity, we all yearn to attain peace.
2015 6th CPWR
- A pilgrimage of universal Love
Master Hsin Tao conducted prayers at the opening ceremony for the PoWR in 2015, and gave a speech on “Universal love and compassion are the hope for peace”.
- Love and compassion are the seeds of peace.
- The practice of Zen brings about transformational energy.
- Quiet listening is conducive to connecting hearts and minds.
- Educating values of self – sustainability and peace brings about the importance of our co- existence with all sentient beings and planet Earth.
- Master Hsin Tao offered blessing for our Earth: May the ecology be balanced and the four seasons remain distinct. May all beings live together harmoniously and be at peace.
2018 7th CPWR
- Reconciling Relationships, Preserving Lives.
In 2018, Master Hsin Tao advocated a balanced global ecology and invited interfaith friends to join in the “Love Our Earth, Love Peace” global movement.
- Awakening of our soul: empathies with the suffering and crises on planet Earth.
- Universal love and compassion: Spreading wisdom through various religions, paving the future for Earth’s sustainability.
- Co-existence of various life form “collaboration of various faiths in preserving the ecology, realizing the interdependence of lives and feeling compassion towards every life form.
- We are one: changing the perceptions of the public, and accepting an environmental- friendly way of life.
- Let us repent, pray and meditate for the betterment of living conditions on planet Earth.
- Build education based on principles of sustainability and Love for our Earth.
- Let us gather talents in religions and environmentalism to promote “Love our Earth, Love Peace” interfaith movement by proposing the concept of University of Life and Peace in Myanmar.
- Let us do this together! – Bravely admit our past mistakes. Everyone has the power to redeem himself or herself.
- Let us start together! Practicing Zen enhances our souls’ sensitivity and revitalize our Earth’s energy.
THIRD Ling Jiou Mountain History
- 1948 Master Hsin Tao was born in the aftermath of the Second World War. He became an orphan at the age of four, and a child soldier at the age of nine. The young boy kept asking himself : "What is peace?"
1993 The Museum of World Religions (MWR) set up a preparatory office to start interfaith dialogue.
2001 Master Hsin Tao launched the independent commission to preserve sacred sites around the world.
- In the wake of the destruction of the Buddhas of Bamiyan statues in Afghanistan, a Bosnian reporter interviewed Master Hsin Tao on how to stop wars. He replied: “When the mind is at peace, the world is at peace."
- The Museum of World Religions was established, becoming an interfaith platform for spreading respect, tolerance and universal love.
2002 The first Buddhist-Muslim dialogue was held at the University of Colorado.
- Master Hsin Tao promoted the organization of interfaith dialogue to bridge communication and understanding between Western religion and Islam, and to spread awareness about love and peace in Islam.
- He set up the Global Family for Love and Peace( GFLP) in New York. As a non-governmental organization, it has the same status as Economic and Social Council ( ECOSOC) endorsed by the United Nations. A platform to consolidate the efforts from all over the world, GFLP seeks to protect our common home- the Earth.
2004 Garnering various religious organizations to help victims of the tsunami that hit South- East Asia rebuild their houses.
The 2009 Tranquility Movement
- Advocate nine big themes- tranquility, compassion, dialogue, vegan diets, recycling, waste reduction, reducing carbon footprint, water conservation, greening our environment, and encouraging everyone to live a simple life. These are concrete actions to love our Earth.
- The Naung Moon Farm Project in Myanmar uses modern farming technology and includes teaching native residents to use non-toxic organic farming methods. This leads to the transformation of the village to an organic living hub, loving the Earth and supporting all life forms in harmonious co- existence.
2015 Embracing Life and Peace Education
- Master Hsin Tao promoted the tenet of harmonious living as part of the life and peace education in Myanmar. This manifested in the building of an international Zen practice center, orphanage and education center for novice monks and nuns.
