Born in upper Burma in 1948, Master Hsin Tao was left orphaned at an early age. Having been taken in by the KMT military units as a child soldier, and having experienced war and witnessed death, he was brought to Taiwan in 1961.

After being ordained a Buddhist monk at the age of 25, Master Hsin Tao practiced austerities in secluded locations, like grave- yards. Having arrived at a cave on Lin Jiou Mountain in 1983, Master Hsin Tao undertook a fast which was to last over two years, during which time he attained a deep insight into the meaning of “Only when all beings are liberated is enlightenment fully attained.”

After his solitary retreat he established Wu Sheng Monastery on Ling Jiou Mountain in  order to spread the Dharma and help relieve suffering in the world.

In order to advance the cause of world peace through religious learning and dialogue, he established the Museum of World Religions in 2001, followed by the international NGO “Global Family for Love and Peace” to carry out various international projects.
