In Christianity, the Holy Cross symbolizes Jesus' “self-sacrificing love” and represents His sacrifice for the redemption of all humanity.

Early Christians regarded the Cross as a symbol of blessing and consecration, making it a central emblem of faith. As the Church evolved, the Cross came to represent not only Christ’s suffering but also His glorious resurrection, inspiring related celebrations and theological teachings.

"On April 14, 1956, the Feast of the Glorious Holy Cross, Father Jansen held the first Holy Communion. This occasion was significant not only because of the feast day itself but also due to a personal connection—when Father Jansen departed for Formosa on his mission, his father gifted him a cross containing a small relic of the True Cross on which Jesus was crucified. During the Holy Communion, Father Jansen blessed the congregation with the True Cross for the first time and proclaimed his new mission in Jingliao as ‘The Holy True Cross.’"— Jingliao Missionary Diary

The processional Cross is a highly significant sacred relic for the Jingliao congregation, playing a central role in religious ceremonies. From 1960 to 1970, it was the sole Crucifixum in the Jingliao Holy Cross Church, positioned behind the altar for many years and serving as the focal point of the congregation’s devoted prayers.

This Cross powerfully embodies Jesus’ spirit of Glorious and Redemptive Love—His Mercy Conquers the Darkness. Through His self-sacrificing love, He fulfilled the divine mission of salvation.

On the Cross, Jesus is depicted wearing the sacred robes of a king, crowned and radiant. This representation not only signifies His holiness and triumph but also serves as a powerful embodiment of faith and hope.
