(Gottfried Böhm)
"I hope this church is filled with joy, that people feel welcome to enter, and that it inspires hope."
— Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, German architect Gottfried Böhm.
Dharma Master Hsin Tao, founder of the Museum of World Religions, established the institution based on the principle of fostering interfaith dialogue and communication. The museum aims to promote understanding, respect, and acceptance among different religions through exhibitions, research, and educational initiatives.
This exhibition aligns with this principle by focusing on the Jingliao Holy Cross Church in Houbi District, Tainan City. It explores the church’s unique spiritual and architectural significance while reflecting the theme of the 2025 Jubilee Year, Pilgrims of Hope (Pellegrini di Speranza). Visitors are invited to experience the power of faith and the beauty of architectural expression.
The spire above the altar of the Jingliao Holy Cross Church and its dormitories were severly damaged because they are located in a region prone to earthquakes and typhoons. Restoration efforts are set to begin in February 2025. During this period, the Museum of World Religions has curated a special exhibition, highlighting their artistic and spiritual significance. This initiative ensures that the church, a symbol of love and hope, continues to shine with a gentle and enduring radiance on this land.
Exhibition spaces located across different floors, each section intergrates perspectives on faith and architecture to reinforce the thematic focus on each floor level.
This exhibition is organized into three sections: ➊Hope Shall Shine Upon Us, ➋The Church in the Paddy Fields, ➌The Glorious Holy Cross
