This exhibition is divided into two sections. The first is entitled “Buddha Illustration by Manga Artists” , a touring comics exhibition launched to raise funds for reconstruction after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. It gathers artworks from 64 Japanese cartoonists and illustrators, wherein Buddha statues promote Buddhist dogma while expressing concern for humanity through humorous ways. The theme for the second section is “Prayer × Taiwan”, and features the works of 37 Taiwanese cartoonists and illustrators who articulate the rich and diverse religious beliefs in Taiwan, and express their care and blessings for the land. Portrayed in comics through the lens of today’s perspectives, the use of gods and Buddha aim to move viewers, bringing them a sense of inner peace and tranquility.
