Haiti Bohio Quisqueya by its original name, is an island located in the Caribbean Sea of the Americas. Since its decovery by Christopher Columbus at the end of the 15th century, the island has constantly been colonized by European nations. A series of rebellions and revolts made Haiti the first independent nation of Latin America and the Caribbean. This historical background nurtured the unique Vodou faith amongst Haitians. Vodou merges African, American, and European culture in an array of unique rituals, music, dance, and artistic expressions that are inseparable from Haitian culture.

Firmly rooted in the soul and the body of Haitians and used for social, cultural and political purposes throughout Haiti’s history, the Haitian Vodou allows the Haitians to reconnect with the past and inspires much of its creativity, imagination and art.

In 2015, the Museum of World Religions worked with the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti, the Bureau National d’Ethnologie (BNE) to introduce Haiti's Vodou faith and culture to Taiwan for the first time. With the exhibit, we hope museum-goers will discover and understand the historical track and culture of a different faith and its adepts. In addition, Museum of World Religions whose mission is to preserve the cultural heritage of faith that is precious from generation to generation, to further world peace and to enrich souls of faith, is the ideal venue for such a premiere in Asia.
