24 The Coronavirus epidemic has highlighted world- wide huge gaps not only in access to health care but also to education. Especially for vulnerable children from poor households without access to computers, the learning process has been interrupted. Many children have fallen behind and experienced greater levels of stress and domestic violence. This kind of problem was taken up by the working group on Education, which submitted its on recommendations on “Building Resilient and Well-Being Sensitive Education Systems.” As the Forum took place in Italy, speakers and panels also reflected on the present situation of Europe and its function in the world. As David Sassoli, the president of the European Union, pointed out, Europe’s multi-cultural dimension and its commitment to peace and economic prosperity in creating the European Union after WW2 has been challenged by recent wars and conflicts, together with new nationalistic political movements that are in part spurned by the refugee crisis. Especially the American withdrawal from Afghanistan and the take-over of the country by the Taliban has thrown urgent questions in Europe about the Transatlantic Alliance and Europe’s own responsibility in securing peace in its own borders and in the world. As the Italian Ambassador to Morocco pointed out in a panel on “The Role of the Mediterranean Region,” all dialogue and diplomacy starts from the point of how we understand the relationship between Self and Other. In this regard, he quoted Churchill who said: “If we think of the other as enemy, we have created an enemy.” Many speakers came back to the topic of dialogue and its importance. Dialogue defines our relationship to the world. As Pope Francis highlighted in his message sent to the conference, religions need to eradicate violence and divisiveness through dialogue and collaboration, and show the presence of God through their peaceful coexistence. Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon emphasized that every dialogue is a gift of the Divine, different from debate and teaching.
