23 ravages of the virus and the disasters caused by climate change. Throughout the conference, speakers referred to the Leitmotiv – the story in the book of Genesis about Cain killing his brother Abel. When asked by God “where is your brother Abel?” Cain retorts “Am I my brother’s keeper?” This story is shared by the three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam alike, and the question as such concerns all of us, no matter which tradition we belong to. The question “where is your brother?” points out the ultimate responsibility of each and every one of us to be our “brothers’ and sisters’ keepers”, to accept, love and help them, not to discriminate against them because of race, culture, religion, gender or socioeconomic status or to exploit them for economic gain. The G20 working groups on Reducing Poverty and Inequality; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Religion and Environment; Religion, Health and Well-Being, as well as Gender Equality, have all addressed the various aspects of this question, submitting their own recommendations to the G20. From the presentations and discussions it became clear that the immediate action to be taken by religious leaders vis-à-vis the epidemic is to encourage vaccinations and to dispel conspiracy theories and false information about the vaccine. This needs to go hand in hand with the commitment of the G20 nation to provide the necessary vaccines to the rest of the world. However, just the vaccines are not enough to save lives in poor countries. More people are killed by hunger and hunger- related causes every year that by the Coronavirus. While we waste one third of all food today, malnutrition causes 45% of child deaths, and if current trends continue, the number of hungry people could reach 840 Million by 2030. G20 leaders are therefore called upon to reach the SDG of eradication of hunger by 2030 and focus on holistic approaches that heal the root causes of hunger rather than simply providing food when news about famines unbearably hit the news. 國際交流 會議場地 With members of Baraja from Oman, England and Germany.
